As part of the modernization program of the Panama Canal, the ACP contracted the services of ICONSA for the construction of two berthing stations at the Cartagena location between Pedro Miguel Locks and Gaillard Cut. The Project consists mainly of nine berthing dolphins capable of handling two ships simultaneously, including one of Panamax dimensions. The works included suplí and installation of steel pipe piles, drilled into bedrock, grouted, and concrete filled; fabrication and installation of prestressed precast panels for the dolphins, suplí and installation of fenders, and quick-release mooring hooks, fabrication and installation of steel frames, trusses and walkways, and accessory works such as earthworks, access roads, lighting,erosion control, etc.
